Selection process for 2025/2026 seasons

Proposal (to be passed by a simple majority):
For the period the 2025 and 2026 seasons, the Committee will:

  • provide all coaches with periodic updates on all players who have been added to the USA Lacrosse database.
  • send a last list out to all coaches in advance of the May 3, 2025 date of submission (so coaches have one last opportunity to add players).
  • make all selections as per the recommendations found below.

With the consent of the area coaches, the Southern Ohio AA Selection Committee coordinates and reports the area AA selections as per USA Lacrosse. The committee is made up of committed coaches, administrators and fans who work long hours throughout the season monitoring all players who have been entered onto the USA Lacrosse database. In the past, at the end of the season, the committee sent the USA Lacrosse list to all coaches to make their selections to the process. Last year we had less than 20% coach participation.

USA Lacrosse Database

  • The information on the USA Lacrosse database is the only information from which the Committee will be selecting the AA candidates.
  • USA Lacrosse will open a central database to all coaches sometime in February or March. The Committee will notify coaches of the ability to access the database.
  • It is the Committee’s suggestion that the coaches enter their candidates into the database early so the committee can start reviewing the players. Do NOT “Submit” the candidates, but “save” the information you have inputted.
  • Coaches will have until May 3, 2025 to enter and “submit” the information they are providing for their candidates.
  • The Committee will remind the coaches of access to the database during the season and the closing of the access at least twice during the season.

Committee

  • The Committee will be made up of between 6 and 8 members. Candidates will be interviewed by committee members and accepted by a 2/3 majority of members. Candidates can include area coaches and parents as approved by the members.
  • Committee members will be responsible for tracking all candidates found on the USA Lacrosse AA database over the season.
    Please note: the Committee can ONLY review candidates on the USA Lacrosse database.
  • The Committee will occasionally meet (in person or virtually) to update their reviews of potential candidates.
  • The Committee will start the final selection process one week after the closing date for the USA Lacrosse submissions. They will pare down the list to an agreed number for final review.
  • The Committee will meet within ten (10) days of the last game of the regular season to select the eight players for submission to USA Lacrosse.

Coaches

  • By the first week of March, the Committee will alert the coaches of this process. If the website is available, they will provide the link to the USA Lacrosse database for coaches to start adding prospective candidates to the database. At the same time, the Committee will request an unofficial pre-season list from coaches so that the Committee can start the season running.
  • Coaches may add all candidate profiles to the database at any time between the initial notification and May 3, 2025. JUST DO NOT SUBMIT THE APPLICANT UNTIL THE CLOSE OF SUBMISSIONS. Save the information in the database. We can see that and act accordingly.
  • Coaches will be responsible for completing all Submissions by May 3, 2025.

Selection Notifications

  • The Committee will notify the coaches and ADs of the selected players within one week of the selections and will provide the ADs with a certificate to be presented to the player at the ADs choosing.
  • The Committee will also provide the certificates to the Ohio Lacrosse Hall of Fame for presentation to the players at their annual banquet. Players will be invited to receive their certificates at the HOF banquet.
